A Dynamic Opinion and Network Formation Model∗
نویسنده
چکیده
Social networks have a profound influence on opinion formation, and at the same time opinion similarity and diversity can draw individuals together or drive them apart. In light of this, we propose a dynamic model in which individuals, belonging to 2 different groups, sequentially update both their opinions and their connections. We show that with probability one this dynamic process converges to a steady state, a state in which no one wants to change their opinions and add/delete their links. If small trembles occur during link creation and deletion, there are only two types of steady states of opinions. Intuitively, in the dynamic process, it could be either individuals’ opinions get closer with creation of more cross-group connections, or individuals’ opinions get further away with deletion of cross-group connections. Thus, in one type of steady states, the distance between individuals’ opinions is minimized (so a consensus if possible), which is consistent with the predictions of most models on social learning. More interestingly in the other type, the distance between individuals’ opinions is maximized, which is rarely predicted from a weighted-average or Bayesian learning model, but yet it is consistent with evidence on opinion polarization, such as the increasing polarization in ideology between political parties. ∗I thank Matthew O. Fuzzy Forcing Set on Fuzzy Graphs
The investigation of impact of fuzzy sets on zero forcing set is the main aim of this paper. According to this, results lead us to a new concept which we introduce it as Fuzzy Zero Forcing Set (FZFS). We propose this concept and suggest a polynomial time algorithm to construct FZFS. Further more we compute the propagation time of FZFS on fuzzy graphs. This concept can be more efficient to model...
متن کاملOpinion Dynamics on Triad Scale Free Network
In this paper, we investigate the opinion dynamics model of social impact theory on triad scale free network with power law degree distribution and tunable clustering coefficient. Based on this opinion dynamic model, we try to observe the clustering coefficient influence on opinion formation by adjusting the triad formation parameter. Simulation result shows that by adjusting triad scale free n...
متن کاملTolerance-based interaction: A new model targeting opinion formation and diffusion in social networks
One of the main motivations behind social network analysis is the quest for understanding opinion formation and diffusion. Previous models have limitations, as they typically assume opinion interaction mechanisms based on thresholds which are either fixed or evolve according to a random process that is external to the social agent. Indeed, our empirical analysis on large real-world datasets suc...

متن کاملOpinion Dynamics under Conformity
We present a model of opinion formation where individuals repeatedly engage in discussion and update their opinion in a social network similarly to the DeGroot model. Abstracting from the standard assumption that individuals always report their opinion truthfully, agents in our model interact strategically in the discussion such that their stated opinion can differ from their true opinion. The ...
